If you could start with a blank piece of paper and design the perfect training and race location for triathlon, then this would be it!” - Spanish Triathlon Federation
It’s difficult to find a higher accolade that this however we’ll challenge you to come up with your own! We were blown away by the standard and more importantly the suitability of the facilities. They’re really close to the resort and compliment the standard of the accommodation perfectly.
1150m Lake where wetsuits will not be required or at worst will be optional. Lake temperature should sit at around low to mid 20 degrees. The lake temperature sits at around 3-4 degrees above the average minimum air temperature for the region.
Six lane 25m indoor heated pool. We will base ourselves here for a lot of the technique work and some conditioning. We are planning on a maximum of six athletes per lane and indeed may be able to make it 4-5 with a technique lane running during the conditioning sets to allow for some 1:1 coaching.
Sea – the Mediterranean Sea is only a few kilometres from the resort and we will of course be using it for the open water sea swimming. We will aim to use wetsuits for this as the temperature will be lower than the lake, but more importantly it will give you the opportunity to work on your stroke in a wetsuit which is notably different. Bear in mind that the majority of triathlons are compulsory wetsuit swims.
The roads nearby snake their way through this stunning desert landscape (certainly beats the traffic of our commutes!) They allow you to explore this desert region, taking in all the area has to offer. The majority of the roads are in excellent condition and almost traffic free.
There are monumental Hors Categorie climbs, undulating coastal roads and fast, rolling straights. We’ll be using all of these over the course of the week. With routes and sessions planned to test riders of all levels.
You’ll often see Rabobank, Garmin, Telenet-Fidea and the Belgian national team out training during the pre-season. They all come to this area year after year.
There is a 2.6km tarmac running track that borders the open water lake, it’s completely flat and well suited for specific interval sets. There are many beautiful trail routes ranging in length and difficulty that start from our sports centre as well as many road routes.
